They Draw and Cook 2012 Calendar

I have some exciting news!  I’ve been chosen to part of the “They Draw and Cook” 2012 Calendar!  For those of you who don’t know, They Draw and Cook is a very cool website where artists can submit illustrated recipes.  My Grandma’s apple crisp recipe was chosen for December!  Yum!  You can purchase a calendar here! It’s $16 plus shipping and handling.

This would make a great Christmas present for any foodies in your life.  Hint, hint :)

And here’s a peek at what the calendar looks like!

Remembering

Why, oh why can’t I remember things?  Can I blame it on my artsy-fartsy spaghetti brain?  Probably not.

Goofin Off

I was having a hard time drawing anything tonight, and my sis suggested that I just draw something I wanted to draw.  This is what popped out of my head.  Not sure what it means.  Dutch apple pie, maybe?

So You Think You Can Dance

No, I do not, but this is what happens when I watch that show.  My favorite: the contemporary or jazz dancers.  So expressive, so fluid, so awesome!

Some Sightings!

An illustrator always loves to see her work out and about.  Last weekend I had the pleasure of spotting two things I had done: my book and my Galison Cupcake stickers.  I also spotted some adorable stickers done by fellow LRS artist Jillian Phillips.  Thanks to coworker Melissa Irk who spotted my book tucked away in the baby section at Von Mar.  I never would have found it otherwise!

Raccoons!

So I’ve been drawing alot of raccoons lately for various projects.  Despite their, how shall we put this, klepto reputation, I find them to be cute, clever and very friendly.  That is, if you raise them from babies.  Not so friendly in the wild.  I once attempted to round up a whole litter of baby raccoons holding up traffic on State Road 1 in Leo, and let me tell you, even the tiny ones make this horrendous growling noise that warns, “come any closer and you’ll be leaving with a few less fingers.”  Our family seems to attract raccoon mischief.  When we were camping, they scarfed down a whole bag of white castle hamburgers we had left on the the picnic table.  The whole campsite smelled awful the next morning.  Raccoons also took up residence in our attic one winter.  How did they get in?  They chewed a hole, THROUGH OUR ROOF!  Even amongst all this chaos, I still think they have charming personalities.  You can’t blame a critter for doing what comes naturally to them.  Anyways, enjoy these raccoon sketches.  I referenced various YouTube sources, including lots of home videos of pet raccoons, and some short bits of Pocahontas, who, if you may remember, had a pet raccoon named Meeko.  I love watching animated critters move because I think animators have a way of simplifying and yet exaggerating animal and human locomotion.  Good practice.
